Part Two:- Unleashing The FULL Power of

Google Books!

Remember when you were stuck on a phrase, or a word, or an Idea, and your mates would tell you to "Google it"? Well, I'll take it One step further! If you are one of those "Last Minute.comers" who writes their essay at the very last minute (not a habit I would normally encourage, I tell ya!) or if you cannot find the physical copy of a book at your local library to aid in your research, then what the hell are you waiting for??? GOOGLE IT! LOL

Honestly I cannot over-emphasise the Use of Google Books as a Significant and Powerful Resource for the Ordinary student who is struggling to keep up. Hand-on-heart I can personally vouchsafe for Google Books and its Online Library Resource (and BELIEVE ME, I aint even on Google's payroll, so I must be pretty impressed! LOL). During those periods of my time in school as an Undergraduate when I was going through those pretty rough times trying to joggle work, school and play, I resorted to using Google Books resources, and in the end Guess what? I ended up with 11 First-class Research Essays and a £100 Graduation Prize upon my graduation for My Academic Achievement - All Because of Google Books, No shade!!!

  • How Google Books Works: Google Books is based on a Huge Online Library Base created by Google inc, which lets you freely search and preview Millions upon million of books from various authors and publishers around the world. All the books are scanned (and most of it scanned via the Libraries of world renowned Universities such as Harvard and Cambridge) and safely stored in Google's Library archives, so it is absolutely authentic!
  • Its a Quick & Easy Way to FIND What you are looking for: Ok, this is how it works. Say for example, Your essay title went as Follows: "Discuss the Legality of the Iraq War". All you have to do is, when you get on Google Books, type the key words of your essay into the Search engine, i.e. Legality, Iraq War, and the search engine will immediately crawl every book within Google's vast Library Archive that contains one or two of these phrases. Instantly, Google books will present you with a vast list of books, all of which contain these phrases, and even better still, it will highlight the phrases with a yellow marker on every page of which ever book you choose to select from the list - I mean how cool is that? So rather than read endless pages of a book without knowing where to begin OR end, by highlighting the phrases, you can instantly determine if the information is one you need or one to discard!
  • Creat Your Own Online Library with Google Books Now, before you can create your own library with Google Books, you have to register with Google. You can Register an Account with Google for free. Once that is done and you have a valid Google Account, then you can proceed. Invariably, if you have got a Gmail account, you can log into Google books with that User account name. Now that you are registered, all you have to do is click on "Books" on the Google search engine page, and it will redirect you straight to the Google's Book page. On that page you will have an inscription below that says "My Library". This is how your library works. Once you find a particular book that has caught your interest, it will have a prompt that says, "Add to My Library" Once you click on that prompt, it subdivides your library shelf into Categories, such as "Favourites", "Reading Now", "To Read", or "Have Read". Here you can place your chosen book in whatever order you like, and whereever you have placed it on your shelf the Beauty of it is IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE when ever you come back to revise that particular book. Furthermore, you can even create names for your own library shelves. So if you want a specific category for a kind of book your reading (which can be quite useful if you are writing a dissertation and do not want to muddle your information up), you can create a category for it, and save as many books as you want on that particular shelf!
  • So How Do I Reference or Cite Any Material I Use on Google Books in My Research Essay?
  • Now that is One Question I hear time and time again. Students are afraid that if their Research essays contain too many URLs or Http's, your Research marker or Tutor might not take your seriously! But that is not entirely true. You see, with Google Books what you get are not some Wikipedia-like kind of webpage where the information cannot be verified. Here, every book was actually SCANNED word for word, page for page from the Physical Book itself, so in essence each book is a REAL book but just in electronic form. And here is a Tip:- You do not have to reference the web address of any of the books you read on Google. Instead, cite or reference each book as you would a Real copy. Each book starts with a real Hard-cover, which like any ordinary book also tells the reader when the book was published, where and by whom. Remember, the books you read on Google are real and what you are reading is its electronic version, thus it would be ridiculous to cite it like a web address! Besides how do I know?!! That was the first tip one of my Senior personal Tutors taught me - and the guy was a Phd holder, go figure!
  • So WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR MATEY??? Google Books is fast, Versatile and reliable.
